Although the words membership and belonging are synonymous, for many gyms, ‘belonging’ simply means a line item on your monthly credit card statement. Not here. At CrossFit North Port, we don’t want you to have a membership, we want you to feel like you belong.

We work very hard to foster a culture of community and create a positive atmosphere that encourages support, but we really can’t take all the credit—we have amazing members who truly care about each other. CrossFit is tough, and facing adversity together forms strong bonds. Before long, you’ll know everyone in your classes, you will cheer them on when they want to quit, you will share victories and struggles, and at the end of it all you will leave with a smile on your face. Many of our members tell us that they never thought that their daily workout would become the hour of the day they look forward to the most. A gym where if you miss a few classes your coach will call to make sure you’re okay? Who knew such a thing existed!

Belonging to CrossFit North Port is not a number or a contract, it’s a feeling.

What is Crossfit?

CrossFit, Inc. defines its strength and conditioning program as, “constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensity across broad time and modal domains” with the stated goal of improving functional fitness.

What this means is that we combine a broad spectrum of skills and movements (from Olympic lifts and basic gymnastics to more basic movements like running and sit-ups) to design daily workouts that change constantly. This way, your body never ‘adapts’ to your routine and you never plateau. CrossFit is inherently scalable, so even though a class may consist of individuals with varying ability everyone participates in the same workout.

When we say ‘functional fitness,’ what we mean is that we are not interested in building vanity muscles here (although looking better naked is a nice perk). We want you to be able to run across the airport to make a connection without getting winded, we want you to be able to lift your spare tire out of the trunk, or carry your grandchild up the stairs.

And most important, we want you to realize that you are capable of so much more than you ever thought possible. This is by far the most powerful side effect of CrossFit and it will affect all aspects of your life.

Every CFNP member goes through one-on-one fundamentals training with one of our coaches and must demonstrate proficiency in these skills before entering group class. Proper execution of these skills is paramount to safety, confidence, and your overall success in achieving your goals.

I was not an athlete growing up. I didn’t fit in with the popular kids. I weighed all of 160 pounds my junior year in High School. Frankly, I was a bit lost. Then my best friend introduced me to lifting. You know, going from machine to machine making grunting noises (I am still known to make those same grunting noises sometimes). This was my first taste of the power of exercise.

A few years later, I found CrossFit. It only took one workout to realize I had found what I’d been looking for my whole life. I found a community—a second family, really—a group of people all striving to better their lives. That first workout felt like a war zone. My legs were shaking, I was gasping for air, and my heart felt like it was going to explode. But none of that mattered because a group of complete strangers were assuring me that I could do it. When I rounded the corner for the last time, and burst through that big bay door for the final time, everyone was cheering and screaming my name. At that point I knew, without a doubt, that CrossFit was for me. I’ve been all in ever since.

Being an athlete has been a part of my identity for as long as I can remember. Some of my fondest childhood memories take place on a field or court of some kind. During college, that passion for fitness was relegated to a ‘globo gym’ where I grew bored and despondent.

Then in 2012, a co-worker dragged me to her CrossFit class, where I fell in love (and not just with Adam). I resurrected my dormant athletic skills and felt that rush of competition I had been missing. I began to grow as an athlete, attaining an overall level of functional fitness that rendered me more prepared for the uncertain physical demands of daily life.

Then we got pregnant. Aubrey was born happy and healthy. After the standard 6 weeks, I returned to CrossFit, but something wasn’t right. I was experiencing issues with incontinence and an extreme pain in my back that didn’t respond to any of the usual mobility exercises. No one had an answer for why this was happening. Finally, I was diagnosed with diastasis recti and pelvic floor dysfunction; the doctor told me to “adjust to this reality.” If you hurt your shoulder, you’re sent to physical therapy, but damage to your body from giving birth is just something to accept? This triggered a journey that would lead me across the country and back acquiring the knowledge and training to enable me to change my own circumstances, and ultimately, those of many other women. I am now an impassioned advocate for mothers; I encourage new moms to  develop realistic goals and strategies that focus on healing, and disregard the trite notion of ‘bouncing back.’ You can absolutely get back to whatever type of fitness you want and enjoy. And I am always here to help.

My first introduction to ‘fitness’ was bench pressing as a teenager in a buddy’s garage. I was hooked. I had a lot to balance in life, but I always made time for fitness. And not just working out; I was  reading, researching, experimenting with my programming, and sharing ideas with anyone who would listen.

In 2009, it happened. I was researching high-intensity training and found an article on CrossFit. The very next day, I was watching my first class. I walked out that day as the 28th member of that gym. By 2010, I was a certified CrossFit coach. Unfortunately, that same year, my gym moved to another town. I kept training on my own, lead a boot camp for some of my wife’s friends in the park, and tried to be content at a ‘globo gym,’ but I wasn’t happy.

Then it happened again! My wife signed up for Adam’s Fundamentals course, and within a few days our family was invited to a get-together at CrossFit North Port. I knew immediately that was home. I’m proud to call it my gym, and even prouder to coach at such a fine facility. Helping others improve their health & fitness is a rewarding passion, one I share with the rest of our staff, and a direct reflection of our community. Love you, guys.

My biggest reason for joining CrossFit was to try something new, something that I was afraid of. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. Weight loss and physical fitness would be the cherries on top.Sure enough, it was intimidating and scary at first. But new members are required to take a 5-class "On Ramp" training program, where you are taught proper form and technique, in a 1-on-1 setting with a trainer. It's clear here that your health and success are top priority.After making it through the on-ramp classes, I definitely felt more confident. And that only gets better with each class. The coaches are very patient and willing to re-teach movements if needed.I feel like I have found my people in the 5:30 class! I honestly look forward to my classes and the progress I'm seeing both physically and emotionally. I only wish I had started sooner.

Can't say enough good things about CFNP. The coaches care about mechanics and form more than weight and it is a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend CFNP. As the newbie in town looking for a local gym can be difficult but Coach Adam made the decision quite easy. After dropping into his gym, I knew I didn’t have to visit any other gym, CFNP was a perfect fit. He and all the coach’s were so welcoming as well as all the members. He’s truly building a great community. Additionally, the motto of the gym “form is everything” was exactly what I needed as I recovered from a lower back injury. The coach’s works closely with members of all fitness levels to help everyone improve each and every class. Personally, I have improved on many of my Olympic movements just by taking a step back and focusing on form rather than the weight on my barbell thanks to the whole team at CFNP.

I have been working out and staying fit most of my life. My military friends told me to start doing Crossfit for years since i stopped doing what i was doing for 12 years. Took awhile with moving and now i am finally settled. So one day after work i called Crossfit North Port and Coach Adam got back to me later that day. We set up a appointment and i came in with a co worker to speak to him what this was about. I already had it in my mind i was going to do this. I started with the 5 day program they have so the coaches can show you how to do things the right way. Once you get through that then you start your classes. They let you work at your own pace but they are very encouraging when you are there training. Now one thing i noticed this is for EVERYONE. My class seems to be all different ages of men and women. So dont think you cant do this. It is a very hard workout if you push yourself to be your best and the coaches see that. This is my 4th week fulltime doing this and i was doing 3 days a week and i will soon be going to 5. My classmates are very nice, everybody smiles and says hi and makes you welcome. The facility is very clean and kept up. Its a fun, family and professional atmosphere and it makes me feel very welcome when i come in. If you read this then please do yourself a favor and give Coach Adam a call or get in contact. This will change your life. I want to thank all my coaches as well. Coach Adam, Coach Kyle, Coach Mil and Coach Erin for showing and helping me do things the right way. Looking very forward to working with them as the future goes on.

Crossfit is Fantastic! I have finally found a gym I can call “HOME”. From the first fundamental classes with Coach Kyle to attending classes daily with Coach Adam, it has been a great experience. After being here for only a month, I am convinced that this is the best gym atmosphere I’ve ever been in. The workouts are fun, intense, and rewarding. Adam the owner really focuses on proper form. People visit FL for beaches and sun, my first destination will always be CFNP (7pm;). When starting something new there is always a little apprehension, now add weight to that! This facility is phenomenal. I’ve been a member for about four months. I was very leery of some of the lifts due to having knee surgery. Coach Adam has helped with strengthening my knee and I am doing Workouts I didn’t think I would ever be able to do again. My wife has never lifted weights and now she is addicted. Coach Adam focuses on form above all else which was my main priority in finding a gym like this. This gym has a fun atmosphere and you shouldn’t be intimidated by videos online if you’ve never done CrossFit before. I’ve been to multiple class times and it is a great group of people that help motivate you through workouts. You’re giving one body and it’s worth the price to get solid coaching, increased flexibility and gain strength.

A year and a half ago I joined CFNP and haven't looked back. Great atmostphere and attentive coaching. I enjoy the variety of workouts and weighlifting it never gets boring. I recently had the pleasure of working with Adam and his team during the On-Ramp program at Crossfit. The facility is spacious and clean, and conveniently located. I'm approaching the big "50", and I've been sedentary for several years, and I have some physical limitations due to previous injuries. Adam and his team scaled the On-Ramp program to accommodate my limitations and set me up to push myself, while keeping my safety as the #1 priority. Safety was reinforced during every session, throughout the session. Adam and his team take the time to thoroughly understand how individuals are responding to the program. There is plenty of opportunity to ask questions, and have all the moves demonstrated so that you are able to complete them correctly. Also, the other cross-fitters at this facility are very welcoming and encouraging, and have a great rapport with one another. This program looks intimidating. I won't lie. It is intimidating but your coaches are there to make sure that you succeed. For anybody on the fence about whether to give it a try, please just do it. You won't be disappointed. I'm finished with my On-Ramp program and I start with my regular program now. I'm nervous, but I know I'm in good hands, and I look forward to the challenges and tracking my improvement.

I started at CrossFit North Port in August 2014 having never done Crossfit before. The coaches, Adam and Sarah, are amazing. They are extremely dedicated to their community at CFNP and to helping each and every one of us be successful and reach or exceed our goals. In my opinion, the coaches can make or break a Crossfit BOX. Adam and Sarah have made an fantastic CF culture are always coaching on form, assisting with new movements, and encouraging everyone on their journey. We also have regular events outside of our WOD's that bring the community closer. We are always here to answer any question or concern that you may have. If you don’t see your questions here, please reach out and ask. And remember, there are no stupid questions!

Is CrossFit for me?
Yes. Everyone can do CrossFit regardless of age, injuries and current fitness level. The program can be modified for each athlete to help him or her become fitter and healthier. Grandparents and Olympians—and everyone in between—can perform modified versions of the same workout.
Do I need to be in shape to start CrossFit?
Absolutely not! This is where you get in shape. No matter what your current fitness level is, you can start CrossFit. You can start if you’ve never worked out, if you have injuries, or if you’re sick or overweight. CrossFit workouts are modified to help each person succeed, improve fitness, and take daily steps toward goals. As you become fitter, your workouts will be adjusted to challenge you at your new level.
Is it worth the price?
We definitely think so, but we are a little biased. 🙂 This is a personal question, and the only way to find out for sure is to give it at try. We know that our program isn’t cheap, but we also know that the changes we see take place in people’s lives are priceless. We’ve seen with our own eyes that an investment in your own health and wellness can pay dividends beyond your wildest dreams.

What if I don't have time for this?
It is a common feel that we don’t have time for ourselves due to the obligations of career and family. The good new is, you only need an hour, and that hour will improve your health, mood, and productivity which will benefit your career and family.

Research shows us that world-class strength and conditioning is obtainable through an hour a day of training six days per week. It turns out that the intensity of training that optimizes physical conditioning is not sustainable past forty-five minutes to an hour. What kind of results can I expect?

Most members begin feeling better and stronger immediately. You can expect about a 15-20% improvement in strength and endurance following the first fifteen sessions. In addition, our findings show that flexibility, agility, and body composition are improved. We can even track this data with our InBody 270 scale. Subjective results like increased mental toughness, energy levels, improved sleep, and reduced joint stiffness are also reported. Most of our members are shocked by their improvements, even those who considered themselves active before starting CrossFit.

Don't people get hurt doing CrossFit?
Over the years, CrossFit has gotten a bad rap as ‘dangerous.’ But CrossFit doesn’t hurt people, bad coaching and improper technique hurt people. For us, form is everything. This is part of the reason why we developed our unique onboarding process, so that members are taught the skills one-on-one before being thrown into a group class where they may feel competitive and be tempted to ‘go fast’ or ‘keep up’ at the expense of proper technique. Also, our class sizes are kept small so that everyone receives personal attention—any sign of bad form is corrected immediately. You will be encouraged to challenge yourself, but never at the expense of your safety. A sedentary lifestyle is far more dangerous than a CrossFit class.
